About the Department
The Department of Botany was established in the academic year 2018-2019, and offering B.Sc Botany programme with a sanctioned strength of 40 students. The Department is functioning in the second floor of the main block from the academic year 2018-2019. The faculty strength of the department is 5 and 4 are doctoral degree holders. The Department of Botany is also offering ancillary Botany for B.Sc. Zoology programme. It has a well-equipped Botany Lab with sophisticated equipment with a required number of collections of plant specimens and latest books in the Departmental library to cater to the needs of students. The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in frontier research areas of Botany. The department excels in the fields of Plant Physiology, Medicinal Botany, Taxonomy, Anatomy, Microbiology and Immunology. Faculty members are getting involved in the transformation of rural students into competent and empowered graduates in Botany by imparting quality education, practical skills, moral values and self-confidence. The faculties have published many research articles in National and International journals. The department is very keen in taking possible effort to impart valued teaching using teaching aids (audio visual aids, equipments like LCD Projector and Models) to mould the students from rural area. Besides, the students are provided with online job oriented programs offered through NAAN MUDALVAN SCHEME by Government of Tamil Nadu. Besides teaching-learning, research, commitment of the Department of Botany towards the community development is excellent as they involve in several environment awareness, outreach activities.
