About the Department
The Department of Zoology was established in the academic year 2019-2020, and offering B.Sc Zoology programme with a sanctioned strength of 40 students. The Department of Zoology is functioning in the second floor of the main block from the academic year 2019-2020. The faculty strength of the department is 5 and 4 are doctoral degree holders. The Department of Zoology is also offering ancillary Zoology for B.Sc. Botany programme. The Department is an instrumental in imparting scientific innovation and creativity among the students of the rural area. The department has registered a growth, right from its inception in UG 2019. The department has well furnished laboratory, a museum with a required number of collections of animal specimens and latest books in the Departmental library to cater to the needs of students. It has well qualified, experienced and dedicated members of staff make remarkable contributions for the growth and success of the department. The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in frontier research areas of Zoology. Faculty members are also guiding Ph.D degree. The faculties have rich research experience with publications in National and International journals. The department is disseminating the students many skill based education with innovative syllabi enabling either to pursue their higher education or job opportunities. The Department makes every possible effort to impart valued teaching to mould the students from rural area. The curriculum lead in progress of the current subjects such as, Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Animal Biotechnology, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Economic Zoology, Economic Entomology, Sericulture, Vermiculture, Environmental studies etc. are keeping in pace of teaching up-front. In addition, students are provided with online job oriented programs offered through NAAN MUDALVAN SCHEME by Government of Tamil Nadu. Modernization of education with latest technology is practiced through the use of audio visual aids, equipments like LCD Projector and Models. Computer and Internet facilities are also made available for doing research and teaching. Students are given opportunity for field work and are taken on study tour to learn beyond the class room.
