About the Department
The Department of History was established in the academic year 2019-2020 and offering B.A. History programme with a sanctioned strength of (60 + 12) 72 students. The faculty strength of the department is 4 and 3 are doctoral degree holders. The Department of History is also offering ancillary History for B.Com. programme. The Department is involved in teaching the Historical views & values, Traditional & heritage legacy of India and Tamil Nadu to the students. The department has registered a growth, right from its inception in UG from 2019. The department library has required number of books to cater the needs of students for academic and various competitive exams such as, UPSC, TNPSC, railway, etc. It has well qualified, experienced and dedicated members of staff make notable contributions for the growth and success of the department. The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in frontier research areas of History. The faculties have rich research experience with publications in National and International journals.
The department of History organizes various programmes emerging areas such as Anthropology, Archaeology, Epigraphy, Ethnography, and Numismatics. Students are given opportunity for field visit and are taken on study tour to learn beyond the class room. The department of history aims to promote the students in understanding of historical knowledge, as well as making steps to create students as capable citizens, policy makers, and public leaders with empathetic awareness for future India. The curriculum leads in progress of the current subjects such as, History of India, Tamil Nadu, Europe, USA, Archaeology, Epigraphy, Journalism, Panchayat Raj, World Civilization, Constitution, Historiography, Intellectual History, environmental science etc. are keeping in pace of teaching up-front. In addition, students are provided with online job oriented programs offered through NAAN MUDALVAN SCHEME by Government of Tamil Nadu.
